Flue Tile Repair/Replacement

Chimney flues generally are comprised of clay flue tiles, stacked one on top of the other, which are able to stand high temperature fluctuations and safely vent the corrosive byproducts of combustion.  When the flue tiles crack, repairs are imperative due to the nature of the gases escaping through the crack.

Flue tiles are typically sealed with mortar to keep these gases contained within the flue. But over time, the mixture of rainwater, heat and chemicals can erode the mortar between the tiles, leaving potentially dangerous gaps or voids. Flue tiles line a chimney from top to bottom and may also crack at any point along the structure. Tiles that crack at the top or bottom openings may be reached with relative ease and replaced. A small hairline crack in a clay tile flue liner will dramatically increase over the course of time.  Once the small crack occurs, water gets inside the crack and can freeze during our brutal Central Ohio winters, this causes the crack to spread, creating a domino effect of cracking from the top to the bottom of the chimney liner.
